メレルの日記 (紀元前 2566 年頃) は、知られている最古のパピルス写本です。 古いロールのパピルスがありますが、白紙です。 そして、石と象牙に古いエジプトの文字が書かれています。 私たちが日記と思っているものよりも、むしろ日誌やタイムシートに近いものです。 メレルのような政府高官は、国王のために働いた時間を計算に入れることが期待されていた。

このような状態が約 2 か月半、おそらく 8 月から 10 月まで続きます。-2566。 それほど刺激的な内容ではありませんが、これが既知の最古のパピルス写本であるだけでなく、当時書かれたギザの大ピラミッドの建造物について私たちが知る唯一の現存する記述でもあるという点を除けば。
これはナイル川が氾濫し、トゥーラの採石場からクフ王の地平線であるアケット・クフ、おそらくクフ王（クフ王）によって建てられたギザの大ピラミッドに石を運ぶのが最も簡単だったときに書かれた。 当時は採石場もピラミッドも水辺近くにあったはずだ。 トゥーラはギザから 13 ～ 17 km の距離にありました。 この場合の石は、3,000年以上にわたってピラミッドを覆っていた白い石灰岩だったと考えられます。 その後、近くにカイロ市を建設するために剥がされることになる。
